Melissa Schnur -

Sigma Sigma Sigma

Melissa Schnur joined the Alpha Iota Chapter of Sigma Sigma Sigma at Northeastern State University in 1993. She graduated cum laude in 1997 with a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications. During her time at NSU, Melissa was active on campus through President’s Leadership Class, Society of Collegiate Journalists, a writer for the student paper “The Northeastern” and hosted a manners and etiquette segment on her campus’s weekly radio station called “Miss Melissa.” She also held a variety of leadership positions in Sigma Sigma Sigma. She served her chapter as Panhellenic delegate, secretary, and treasurer, as well as serving as both chair and a member of various committees.
Upon graduation from NSU, Melissa began her professional career as the director of membership services for the Greater Muskogee Area Chamber of Commerce. While in Muskogee, Melissa was active in the community, mentoring for Harmony Among Youth, serving as a member of Service League of Muskogee and helping establish the Muskogee Jaycees. Melissa is a graduate of Leadership Muskogee Class V and received the Community Leadership Award from Leadership Oklahoma for her involvement in both the adult Leadership Muskogee program and in Youth Leadership Muskogee. Until recently, Melissa served as the community relations coordinator for Domestic Violence Intervention Services, Inc. (DVIS/Call Rape). Her role at DVIS/Call Rape evolved over the years, but she was primarily responsible for all public relations activities of the agency and served as a member of the development and fundraising staff. Melissa recently began an exciting new phase in her career as the development director at the Sherwin Miller Museum of Jewish Art.

Melissa has been active in Tri Sigma activities at the local and regional levels since her graduation. Melissa has served the Tulsa Area Alumnae Chapter of Tri Sigma in a variety of positions. She has served as president, vice president, chairwoman for the Founder’s Day and nominating committees and on the steering committee for the chapter’s recent 75th anniversary celebration. She has also been a delegate to Tulsa Area Alumnae Panhellenic for the past five years. During her time on Panhellenic, Melissa has served as president, vice president, treasurer and the director of recruitment. She is currently serving TAAP as both the webmaster and the director of procedure. Melissa also served Tri Sigma on a regional level, serving for a number of years as the financial advisor for the Alpha Iota Tri Sigma chapter at NSU.

Through both her professional and sorority involvement, Melissa has strived to live by one of every Sigma’s favorite sayings, “To receive much, you must give much.”
