Jane Dobbs Brechin

Kappa Kappa Gamma

Jane Dobbs Brechin graduated from the University of Pittsburgh (Pitt) in Pittsburgh, Penn. cum laude, with a bachelor of science degree in education and psychology. She was elected Outstanding Senior Woman. Her master of arts degree in higher education administration is from the University of Tulsa.

Her professional career spans elementary to higher education and has taken her from Coronado, Calf., to New Canaan, Conn. She also has taken her interests and commitment into various volunteer positions. Jane is retired from TU after 19 ½ years in the division of student affairs.
As associate dean of students and director of student activities, Jane was responsible for development and implementation of a diverse range of programs including student supervision and advisement, the Panhellenic organization, the Student Association, orientation, nontraditional and multicultural students and the TU Golden Hurricane varsity cheerleading squad.

The Tulsa community has requested the programs Jane offered on subjects including stress management and assertiveness training. She has presented to groups such as American Airlines, IBM Corporation, U.S. Postal Service, General Telephone, St. Francis Hospital, Junior League of Tulsa and the Tulsa Area Alumnae Panhellenic. Advancing women’s educational and professional opportunities is of long-term special focus.

The hallmark of Jane’s work is demonstrated enthusiasm, creativity and an unparalleled standard of excellence. Her achievement has been recognized with awards such as Who’s Who in American Women, Mortar Board National Service Award, National Science Foundation Grant and the Pinnacle Award for Education, which is from the Tulsa Mayor’s Commission on Improving the Status of Women. After her retirement, the TU Student Association established a three-part Brechin Lecture Series featuring speakers recognized nationally for their commitment to service. Also, the TU Panhellenic alumnae advisors inaugurated the Jane D. Brechin Award to be given annually for outstanding chapter programming.

From a series of leadership opportunities as a collegiate member of Kappa Kappa Gamma, continued experience as a university administrator and as an active participant in Kappa and TAAP activities, Jane continues to educate and focus on development of students of all ages.
