Jane Dobbs Brechin
Kappa Kappa Gamma
Jane Dobbs Brechin graduated from the University
of Pittsburgh (Pitt) in Pittsburgh, Penn. cum laude, with a
bachelor of science degree in education and psychology. She was
elected Outstanding Senior Woman. Her master of arts degree in
higher education administration is from the University of Tulsa.
Her professional career spans elementary to higher education and
has taken her from Coronado, Calf., to New Canaan, Conn. She
also has taken her interests and commitment into various
volunteer positions. Jane is retired from TU after 19 ½ years in
the division of student affairs. |

As associate dean of students and director of
student activities, Jane was responsible for development and
implementation of a diverse range of programs including student
supervision and advisement, the Panhellenic organization, the
Student Association, orientation, nontraditional and
multicultural students and the TU Golden Hurricane varsity
cheerleading squad.
The Tulsa community has requested the programs Jane offered on
subjects including stress management and assertiveness training.
She has presented to groups such as American Airlines, IBM
Corporation, U.S. Postal Service, General Telephone, St. Francis
Hospital, Junior League of Tulsa and the Tulsa Area Alumnae
Panhellenic. Advancing women’s educational and professional
opportunities is of long-term special focus.
The hallmark of Jane’s work is demonstrated enthusiasm,
creativity and an unparalleled standard of excellence. Her
achievement has been recognized with awards such as Who’s Who in
American Women, Mortar Board National Service Award, National
Science Foundation Grant and the Pinnacle Award for Education,
which is from the Tulsa Mayor’s Commission on Improving the
Status of Women. After her retirement, the TU Student
Association established a three-part Brechin Lecture Series
featuring speakers recognized nationally for their commitment to
service. Also, the TU Panhellenic alumnae advisors inaugurated
the Jane D. Brechin Award to be given annually for outstanding
chapter programming.
From a series of leadership opportunities as a collegiate member
of Kappa Kappa Gamma, continued experience as a university
administrator and as an active participant in Kappa and TAAP
activities, Jane continues to educate and focus on development
of students of all ages.
