Connie Yates Brown became a member of Alpha Gamma
Delta at Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kan., and held
many leadership positions. After passing on serving as chapter
president, she vowed to never say no to Alpha Gamma Delta again.
After graduating, Connie moved to Tulsa and joined the alumnae
club. In the mid-1970s, the club was on the verge of disbanding
and misplaced key items. Connie was instrumental in keeping the
club alive and purchased another sorority Constitution and
candlesticks, which the club still uses. |

After developing a variety of alumnae programs,
Connie served as a recruitment consultant, director of recruitment
operations, international vice president of membership and house
association specialist. During the Alpha Gamma Delta
Convention centennial celebration, Connie was installed as the
international president. She revised the strategic plan to allow
for smoother transitions of international council. She started a
program to encourage alumnae to find Alpha Gamma Delta
activities to include children. Connie started a council
personnel committee and appointed a committee which reorganized
the volunteers. After her term, an Alpha Gamma Foundation
scholarship was started by her initiating chapter, in her name.
She is now helping with alumnae development to mentor younger
members and serves as the house association president for her
collegiate chapter, which is building a new chapter house.
Connie has served in all offices of the alumnae club. She also
held many leadership positions for TAAP serving as delegate for
more than 20 years. As TAAP president, she guided a name change
from Tulsa Alumnae Panhellenic and organized a day of service.
One of Connie’s favorite moments came while attending a National
Panhellenic Conference meeting. She found that TAAP donated
money to the NPC Foundation to honor the service of herself and
fellow delegate and friend, Connie Hamernik Doverspike.
Professionally, Connie worked in the oil and gas industry in the
1970s and then began selling yellow-page advertising for
Southwestern Bell. In 1977, she started her own business as a
Rug Doctor licensee, which she operated for 22 years. She
continues to work as a business consultant and in sales and
occasionally teaches table manners. She is a member of Tulsa
Executive Exchange, currently serving as retreat chairman.
Connie continues a close relationship with the Yates family in
southwestern Missouri and cherishes friendships with a chosen
few. She is an avid University of Oklahoma fan and enjoys
visiting the Norman Alpha Gamma Delta chapter to meet with
collegians and alumnae. She continues to be involved with the
Tulsa alumnae club and is grateful they chose to honor her as
2008 Woman of the Year.
