Cissy McDaniel Parker -
Delta Delta Delta
The Tulsa Alumnae Chapter of Delta Delta Delta
has selected Catherine "Cissy" McDaniel Parker as our Woman of
the Year.
Cissy has served Delta Delta Delta in many capacities. She has
been a chapter advisor at the University of Tulsa and served as
vice president of the Tulsa Alumnae Chapter. As vice president
of the Delta Delta Delta House Corporation at TU, she gave
countless hours getting the house ready and overseeing needs and
repairs each summer. Her generous spirit and financial support
have benefited our chapters at Texas, Oklahoma and TU.
Cissy is a Life Loyal member of Delta Delta Delta and is a
member of Tri Psi, our national organization for Mothers of Tri
Deltas, and has served as its president. |

Cissy is a member of the United Methodist Women
and has served as president and is a long-time member of the
Joynor Class at the 1st Methodist Church. She is currently a
member of P.E.O., and has served as its vice president and
secretary, Philbrook Art Center, Pro America, Republican Women’s
Club, Daughters of the American Revolution, and Seed & Sod
Garden Club. She has been a tireless volunteer in our community
as a member of the State Board of Frances E. Willard Home for
Girls, the nominating committee of YMCA, Children’s Day Nursery,
Cerebral Palsy Association and Children’s Home.
Cissy currently serves on the College of Education Advisory
Council at The University of Texas. Recently a room on the
campus was named in her honor.
Cissy McDaniel Parker was born in Dallas and grew up in Cisco,
Texas. She graduated from John Tarleton Jr. College in 1942,
where she was a cheerleader, regimental sponsor of ROTC,
secretary/treasurer of the Association of Women Students
Council, secretary/treasurer of Sine Cera Social Club and was
elected “Most Typical Girl.” She then attended The University of
Texas where she was initiated into Delta Delta Delta in 1943 and
served her chapter as intramural chairwoman. While at UT she was
a member of the Spooks Club and was a Bluebonnet Belle Nominee.
Cissy graduated with a degree in physical education in 1944.
Robert L. Parker and Cissy McDaniel were married in 1944 and had
three children - Robert L. Parker, Jr., Carol Parker Adams and
Debra Parker Hinch. Their children followed in their parent’s
footsteps attending The University of Texas, where Carol and
Debra were Tri Deltas. Much sadness came when they unexpectedly
lost their lovely daughter, Carol, in 2006. Cissy and Bob boast
11 beautiful grandchildren (four Delta Delta Delta
granddaughters and, in the Panhellenic spirit, two Kappa Alpha
Theta granddaughters) and three precious great grandchildren.
Through the years, she has opened her home for many Tri Delta
events. In her generous and quiet manner, Cissy exemplifies a
wonderful role model. We are pleased to honor one of our dearest
Tri Delta Alumnae and a very special friend as our 2008 Woman of
the Year.
