Carolyn Hobbs Cotton -
Alpha Xi Delta
Carolyn Hobbs Cotton pledged Epsilon Omicron
chapter of Alpha Xi Delta at Oklahoma State University in August
1970 and graduated in December 1973 with a Bachelors of Science
Degree in Vocational Home Economics. Carolyn served the chapter
as corresponding secretary, Quill chairman, vice president and
in 1972-73 was named Outstanding Chapter Member. She is a
charter member of the current Tulsa Alpha Xi Delta Alumnae
organization.
Upon graduation, Carolyn began teaching at Bristow High School,
where she taught vocational home economics/family and consumer
sciences for 31 years. During her high school teaching career,
she was active in professional organizations and received
numerous awards. She was named the Oklahoma
Vocational Teacher of the Year and was selected as National
Vocational Teacher |

of the Year in 1989. In addition, she was the
first Oklahoma teacher honored in the Disney Channel Salute to
American Teacher Awards. Carolyn has served as both state and
national president of the vocational home economics teachers’
organizations and served on numerous state and national
professional committees.
Carolyn continued her education by earning a masters degree in
secondary education from the University of Central Oklahoma and
a doctorate degree in education from Century University. In
1994, she was the recipient of the OSU Distinguished Alumni
Award from the College of Human and Environmental Sciences
(formerly college of Home Economics).
She has received the Governor of Oklahoma “State of Excellence
Award” and the American Home Economics Association “New
Achiever” award, in which she was one of five in the nation
honored in 1988.
Her professional involvement and technology expertise has made
her a sought- after presenter for workshops and meetings across
the United States. She has written and published numerous
articles on varying educational topics.
Carolyn is currently employed as a program specialist in family
and consumer sciences (FACS) for the Oklahoma Department of
Career and Technology Education. One of her major
responsibilities is supervising more than 100 family and
consumer sciences teachers in northeast Oklahoma. She also
coordinates technology training and developed and maintains
Internet-based resources for FACS teachers across the state.
Carolyn is married to Steve Cotton, a chemistry teacher at
Charles Page High School in Sand Springs. Their hobbies include
camping and riding their Honda GoldWing motorcycle. They have
served as state directors of the Oklahoma GoldWing Road Riders
Association (GWRRA) and also as the GWRRA International
Directors for Leadership Training. Carolyn and her husband are
members of the Sand Springs United Methodist Church. |
